We are looking for new trustees
The Pebble Trust is a charitable trust working in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland to develop a more sustainable, fair, and low-carbon society, where constraints on fossil fuels lead to a more localised economy with stronger, more resilient communities.
We are looking for new trustees to join our existing team of seven. Are you:
passionate about promoting a fairer and more resilient future in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland?
aware of the many issues impacting on climate change and their solutions?
willing to prioritise some time to help drive change forwards?
The position will suit someone who:
- Is based in the Highlands & Islands
- Is committed to our vision
- Is prepared to commit about one day per month on a voluntary basis
Being a Pebble Trust Trustee is interesting and rewarding and you will be able to use your skills to help us make a real difference. We are committed to supporting you in a welcoming and encouraging environment. The Trust strives for a balance of representation on the Board of Trustees, and encourages applications from people of all backgrounds, all ages and from people with all abilities.
Arabella Kennard, who joined us as a trustee in 2022, gives a flavour of her experience as a member of the Board and explains what motivated her to become a trustee with The Pebble Trust.
Trustee duties and activities
The trustees have overall responsibility for the Trust’s activities. Collectively, they:
- Decide on the Trust’s policy and direction
- Agree on grant programmes
- Monitor the Trust’s finances
- Take investment decisions, subject to recommendations from the trustees’ investment committee
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations
Trustees assess and determine grant applications, and from time to time develop the Trust’s own projects. There is a rota for assessing applications, so trustees don’t need to commit to looking at them all.
Trustees are invited to represent the Trust at a range of events, networking with existing and prospective grant applicants and other funders.
Trustee meetings are held as and when necessary, mainly on-line, three or four times per year, and in addition we have an annual weekend away where we can discuss bigger topics.
Next steps
If you are interested but would like to speak to an existing trustee before deciding, email us. Otherwise please send us by email your CV and a short letter or video explaining why you’d like to join us. The closing date for applications is 23rd March 2025.
