Peffery River Restoration

The River Peffery Restoration Project, led by environmental consultancy Lockett Agri-Environmental, aims to reconnect a stretch of the River Peffery to its original floodplain to improve biodiversity and to reduce flood risk as well as providing community benefit.

Pebble Trust funding enabled the first phase of the project – a LIDAR survey of the floodplain to explore the feasibility of the project. The success of the first stage has opened the way to the implementation stage of work and to additional, more substantial sources of funding.

This will involve engineering works to remove embankments and allow the river to spill onto the floodplain creating 7 ha of new wetlands. Funding for the second stage is now in place with an additional small injection of funding from the Pebble Trust to complete the funding package.
